Tea Tree Oil Ringworm Cure

Tea Tree Oil Ringworm

Tea tree oil which is extracted from a plant native to Australia has anti fungal, anti septic and anti bacterial properties that can be a cure for ringworm[i]. Ringworm is a skin condition which is triggered by fungal infection in both humans and pets.  This skin condition occurs on moist parts of the skin and if left untreated, ringworm can also lead to jock itch[ii] and athlete’s foot[iii]. Tea tree oil is said to be a remedy for ringworm because of its potent germicidal properties that can combat pathogenic organisms. Tea tree oil ringworm treatment prevents the growth of fungi.

Tea tree oil for ringworm is really popular nowadays but there isn’t enough research that can prove the effectiveness of the oil in getting rid of ringworm. However, one scientific study which was published in the Australasian Journal of Dermatology[iv] found that 64% of participants with athlete’s foot (a type of ringworm) got their skin condition cured using 50% tea tree oil solution over a period of four weeks. The participants who used lower tea tree oil concentration had a cure rate of 31 percent.

With regard to the recommended dose of tea tree oil for treating ringworm, there isn’t a specific dose required for positive results to take effect. In fact, through many studies conducted about the effectiveness of tea tree oil for treating ringworm, it was found that various levels of concentration of the oil deliver results in varying degrees. Whether it is 50 percent or 100 percent tea tree oil solution, it is important to blend it with one tablespoon of carrier oil as applying the oil undiluted can be harsh on the skin and may worsen your skin condition.

Prior to applying the oil to the affected areas of your skin, be sure to cleanse the area thoroughly and allow it to dry. Use linens to prevent contamination and put a few drops of the oil onto the end of a cotton swab, applying it directly to the affected area. The areas with ringworm should be completely covered. The procedure should be repeated twice a day. To prevent skin irritation, dilute 1 ½ tablespoons of tea tree oil with one cup of warm water. The treatment should last until the fourth week.

If you have ringworm tea tree oil can help to cure it.  But if you have not seen any improvements from using the tea tree oil ringworm treatment immediately discontinue use and consult a physician for topical treatment recommendations.
