Methicillin-resistant Staphyloccus Aureus [i]or MRSA is said to be a bacterium which can cause various types of infection in humans that are hard to cure. The breeding grounds for MRSA are public places such as hospitals and fitness gyms where equipment is publically used. Aside from antibiotics, tea tree oil is said to combat the colonization of MRSA. Tea tree oil MRSA treatment is used as an ointment for killing MRSA bacteria. It is usually applied on the affected area of the skin colonized by bacteria. Is tea tree oil really effective for treating MRSA?
Although the Mayo Clinic considered tea tree oil effective in killing bacteria, there has not enough scientific evidence that will prove its effectiveness in dealing with MRSA. In spite of having anti bacterial properties, this is not enough evidence to deem tea tree oil effective for combating MRSA colonization. MRSA may even become resistant to antibiotics when tea tree oil is applied according to recent studies. Even hospitals do not encourage the use of this oil to disinfect people from MRSA.
When tea tree oil in low sub lethal concentration is used to kill bacteria, there is a tendency for the bacteria to increase its tolerance for anti-bacterial substances. Low concentration of tea tree oil will not kill bacteria in the first place. It is also difficult to distinguish which product is a threat because these products do not state the percentage of oil used. Further studies are still needed for tea tree oil to be considered a cure for MRSA.
Before you attempt to fight any type of infection such as MRSA, it is important to consult a physician for correct treatment. Tea tree oil MRSA treatment is not as effective as many would think. Never experiment with tea tree oil if you have already encountered MRSA infection because MRSA will have higher resistance to antibiotics the more often you use it.
