Baby constipation can leave a parent in turmoil about what to do. But don’t worry, there are some very gentle baby constipation remedies if you find that your child is grunting, drawing up its legs, and turning red with their concerted effort of trying to pass a stool. Worse still, if baby’s stool is very hard, it can actually damage the babies tend to rectal passage. Baby’s normal stools will not really appear until after the first two or three days. Until then, baby will pass a dark black or dark green substance known as meconuim. One of the main reasons why your baby may be having difficulties in passing a stool is because you may have recently switched from feeding your child on breast milk to formula milk.

Most breast fed children will not get constipated. The reason for this is that the breast milk is so full of nutrients that there is little waste at the end of the digestion process. It is therefore bottle fed babies that are more prone to newborn baby constipation. This is because formula milk is much more difficult for the baby to digestive, leaving a lot more waste to produce which will be thicker and harder to expel.

There are some simple baby formula constipation remedies that you can try. Add a couple of ounces of additional warm water or some diluted prune juice to the bottle to add liquid and soften the stool. Also, try massaging the baby’s belly or moving the baby’s legs in a cycling motion. Always consult your doctor or baby nurse if the problems persist.
