When using tea tree oil on the face be sure to dilute it in water or add a few drops to your cleanser because dabbing the oil directly onto your face may cause skin irritation. It can be applied once a day preferably in the evening before you go to bed.

Acne is caused by hormonal changes and it has very little to do with the food you eat. Although teenagers are the ones most likely affected by this skin condition, acne cannot be easily outgrown even when you reach adulthood especially if the condition is left untreated. Tea tree oil is safe to use so long as you dilute it with a carrier oil, water, cleanser etc. if you want all natural approach to treating acne, you can also consider the use of homemade face cleansers into which you can add tea tree oil. You need seven drops of lavender oil, three tablespoons of jojoba oil, three drops of vitamin E oil, eight drops of tea tree oil and three drops of geranium oil. These ingredients should be mixed together and applied directly to the entire face. You need to use 100% pure tea tree oil to obtain optimum results. [ii]

The above mentioned ingredients make up a 2 ounce face wash. Before using the cleanser, be sure to shake well for all the ingredients to mix well. You also need to rinse your face first and apply the face wash then rinse again. For best results, use the face wash after a hot shower.

If you do not want to use acne medications with benzoyl peroxide due to their undesirable side effects, tea tree oil face wash can safely treat acne with only fewer side effects. Tea tree oil should be used on mild to moderate acne. Severe cases of acne may need medical attention from a dermatologist.
