Candidiasis or yeast infection occurs due to the overgrowth of candida albicans in the body which can feed on certain types of food. Candidiasis usually occurs in moist areas of the body including mouth, stomach, urinary tract and vagina. Candidiasis is also referred to as thrush. Some of the causes of yeast overgrowth are obesity, pregnancy and a weakened immune system function. When left untreated, the infection can spread rapidly and bring about many unpleasant symptoms. There are several treatments that can be used for treating candidiasis. Tea tree oil[i] is one of them. Tea tree oil candida infection treatment has anti-fungal properties which can help to stop the spread of the infection. Tea tree oil can cause irritation when it is applied undiluted. Individuals with yeast infection should use tea tree oil only in its diluted state to prevent further discomfort. [ii]
Tea tree oil kills both the bacterial and fungal cells which produce Candida albicans. To use tea tree oil for treating candidiasis, you need to place 10 drops of pure tea tree oil in a warm bath and soak yourself for at least 20 minutes. You can also create a douche with tea tree oil. Mix one teaspoon of tea tree in 2 cups of water and put a few drops into the vagina. To prepare a vaginal suppository, mix 1/3 parts tea tree oil and 2/3 parts vitamin E oil. Soak a tampon in the solution for 20 minutes. [iii]
Tea tree oil only kills bad bacteria such as Candida Albicans. Lactobacillus Acidophilus which is good bacteria in the body is resistant to tea tree oil. This type of bacterium is responsible for controlling the growth of yeast in the body. Tea tree oil is a lot safer to use than antibiotics because antibiotics tend to kill both good and bad bacteria. This is why health care providers often advise individuals with candidiasis to take probiotic supplements to replace good bacteria that were eradicated by antibiotics. [iv]
Prior to using the oil, make sure that it is made with 100% pure tea tree oil. Make sure you purchase a brand which is stored in a dark glass container. You can test a small amount of diluted tea tree oil on your skin before you use it to its full extent to check whether or not you are allergic to the oil.
Tea tree oil candida therapy only provides temporary relief from any candida infection. You still need to talk to your doctor for more recommendations. You may already be suffering from a serious case of candidiasis and using tea tree oil may not effectively cure it.
